Enabling

Number 2 | Enabling

Encourage and enable ordinary, average people to minister to P.U.R.E. people and their families in their local communities.

A more far-reaching purpose of Zachariah’s Way is not only to increase awareness of, but also to encourage personal involvement with the P.U.R.E. person and family.  As individuals begin to recognize the value that God Himself has placed in these special people, and an understanding is gained of the unbelievable challenges that they face in simply living life, some will desire to become personally involved.  Furthermore, when individuals become involved, they get a glimpse into the lives of the disabled – that the situation is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and that it will, in many cases, not improve. After gaining this insight, they will hopefully be further moved with compassion to give of their time, energy, friendship, and love.  An offer to care for a special needs child so that the parents can go shopping; mowing the yard of a family whose child has been hospitalized for a week; helping a mom load a heavy wheelchair in the car - these are all ways that allow us the opportunity to minister to these families.  It is through this personal involvement that God is glorified and lives are changed.  At Zachariah’s Way, we understand the questions and concerns that individuals experience when reaching out to special needs people and families.  Zachariah’s Way assists and enables individuals desiring this level of ministry by serving as a resource and information exchange to answer questions, alleviate concerns, offer suggestions, and provide guidance.

What happens when we get personally involved? What can we do?

How about ...

  • Taking a meal to the family that just had a son born with spina bifida?
  • Keeping the little boy with cerebral palsy so his mom can go grocery shopping without having to push a wheelchair and a grocery cart?
  • Volunteering to help in the Sunday School class with a little girl that has seizures?
  • Cleaning the house of the family that spends their days going from therapy to therapy?
  • Seeing a child’s face light up when she sees you coming to play with her?
  • Sitting in the waiting room with the parents of a child having surgery - again?
  • Going to bed at night and knowing that you have shown Jesus to a family that was feeling hopeless?
  • Being blessed by God beyond your imagination?
As you can see, the ways we can really help are endless and relatively easy.  If we will only get out of our comfort zone and overcome our feelings of awkwardness and, sometimes, even fear - we can make a real difference.
