Zachariah’s Way is committed to empowering P.U.R.E. families in many ways, including information, education, and resource location. Initially, when a special needs child is born and problems are discovered, the parents and family are emotionally devastated. Although God is always present and merciful, this particular situation is overwhelming for most parents.
Oftentimes, P.U.R.E. parents are thrust into a life of:
- Having to deal with the medical issues concerning their precious baby
- Coming to grips that things are not, nor will they ever be again, "normal"
- Beginning the process of adjustment - that their hopes and expectations for their child are forever changed
- Anticipating and fearing the unknown future of a life caring for a special needs child
- Experiencing the prospect of financial hardship involved with that care that often causes families immeasurable pain and sadness
In His grace, God protects these special people by revealing only what can be absorbed minute-by-minute, sheltering them and the child. However, after the initial shock is somewhat absorbed and reality sets in, the parents are confronted with the staggering fact that they have absolutely no experience, knowledge, or idea of how to care for their special needs baby/child. Equipped with limited skills, virtually no education or training, and much trepidation, the parents take their precious child home and into a new world for them all. As time goes on, the parents soon realize that though institutional and governmental agencies exist and can help, navigating through the myriad of regulations, paper work, insurance, therapy, and medical issues is daunting and intimidating. Zachariah’s Way purposes to assist parents in coordinating the day-to-day process of securing proper medical care, services, therapy, equipment, etc., and serves as a vital resource in helping parents provide care for their child.
